Social Security Number Validation Rules

For the Social Security Number fields in the system, a valid SSN or ITIN is accepted. These fields validate the entry according to these rules:

For example, 120456789 is a valid entry according to system validation rules, but 986654321 is considered invalid.

IRS Publication 15 (Circular E) for 2015 cautions: "Do not accept an ITIN [IRS individual taxpayer identification number] in place of an SSN for employee identification or for work" (page 14, http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf).
