Social Security Number Validation Rules

For the Social Security Number fields in the system, a valid SSN or ITIN is accepted. These fields validate the entry according to these rules:  

For example, 120456789 is a valid entry according to system validation rules, but 986654321 is considered invalid.

IRS Publication 15 (Circular E) for 2015 cautions: "Do not accept an ITIN [IRS individual taxpayer identification number] in place of an SSN for employee identification or for work" (page 14, http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p15.pdf).

Social Security Number Verification

After hire, the ADM00502 report, "Social Security Verification Batch File," can be used to generate an export file for batch verification through the Social Security Administration's Business Services Online.
