Details

Shift codes define period of work time (shift) to pay and record time for work performed outside of a typical business-day schedule.

The default shift (if any) for an employee is assigned on the Assignment tab within the Employee Master and also can be defined on the Employee Position Detail. These screens are available to the Payroll & HR role and Payroll & HR Enterprise role.

A shift code can be selected during pay entry to override an employee's default shift assignment.

In contrast to Shift codes, job shift numbers are used in implementations for some hospital settings and refer to a Job Shift Rate Table with pre-assigned shift numbers 1-6 attached to a specific Job Code.

Scenario for Shift Differentials

A company policy is to pay shift differential at the overtime rate. For instance, if the shift differential is $2.00, then any overtime hours are paid at the shift differential of $3.00.
