Benefit Type Codes

Pre-defined Benefit Type Codes group benefits' core services for online benefit enrollment selection, processing, and reporting.

Benefit Type Codes are defined behind the scenes to group benefits by core services. Standard benefit types include MEDICAL, DENTAL, and codes for different types of disability and life insurance.

Unlike Benefit Category codes, Benefit Types refer to core services, not categories of eligible employees.

Each Benefit Type Code includes a Code, Description, Active checkbox, and Open Enrollment Type. In standard implementations the Benefit Types Table is not available through validation table maintenance and is only available to administrators through screen customization options. Through screen customization, existing types can only be edited or deleted.

To review the Benefit Type Codes in your system, generate the VAL00000, Validation Table Data Report, for VAL_BENEFITTYPE.

Where a Benefit Type is Selected

• On the Benefit Codes Table, the Benefit Type Codes provide the Benefit Type selection list.
• On the Coverage Codes Table, benefit types are associated with coverage codes in the "Eligible Benefit Types" field.
• Per benefit Enrollment Code, system administrators select one Benefit Type per step and define as many as sixteen (16) steps per Enrollment Code to setup an Online Benefit Enrollment. In turn, each Benefit Code has a designated Benefit Type. During Online Benefit Enrollment, per selection step, eligible employees may choose one Benefit Code per Benefit Type.

Note: Only one of the benefit codes with a particular type may be chosen by a particular employee during an online benefit enrollment.
