Minimum Wage Calculation
The detailed pay entry spreadsheet offers an automatic-calculation
of a make-up minimum wage amount when the average hours calculated by
State and Check code for the
employee equal less than the minimum wage.
The system selects the higher between Federal
minimum wage and State minimum wage and creates a record that can
be added as a row of earnings with a single click or keystroke.
- State
minimum. The State
minimum wage is recorded on the State
Codes Table. The pre-populated State
Codes Table includes an optional field to enter each state's minimum
wage requirement. As part of implementation, you verify this entry for
every state in which your organization may have employees work.
- Federal minimum. The
Federal minimum wage is defined
in the Federal Min Wage field
on the System Preferences in the Administrator program.
Calculate Make-Up Minimum Wages
- Set your pay entry
Preferences to allow minimum wage
calculations.
- Enter time as usual.
Where a
pay entry record is saved and the pay amount is not enough to meet minimum
wage requirements for the hours worked, then the Minimum Wage Calculation
function provides a record that can be added to pay entry.
- Click on the OK button to add the amount to the spreadsheet.
Note: If you click
on the Cancel button, the amount isn't added.
Processing Logic
On detailed pay entry, when an employee's hours times the
rate is less than the minimum wage, the Minimum Wage Calculation function
opens with a calculation of the difference based upon the Federal or State
minimum, which ever is greater.
WARNING:
If
you make changes to the spreadsheet after a minimum wage calculation has
been added and saved, delete the minimum wage row and click on save again
to have the calculator refigure the correct minimum wage record.
